The formation of gas bubbles during freezing has been the subject of s
poradic research in cryobiology. It has been suggested that the presen
ce of gas or gas bubbles can contribute to cell damage. In this paper
we present the results of DSC experiments carried out to determine the
effect of the presence of gas on intracellular ice formation in lymph
ocytes. It is found that the presence of gas does not significantly af
fect intracellular ice formation (IIF) behaviour.
