Abstract
Data on the permeability of liver tissue to the cryoprotective agent d imethyl sulphoxide (Me2SO) by diffusion have been obtained non-invasiv ely using H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy during bot h exposure and washout. Results demonstrate that in compact tissues eq uilibration with tissue water is not complete for up to 2 hrs, while t he kinetics for influx and efflux were similar. These observations are discussed in relation to the development of protocols for cryoprotect ant exposure in tissue cryopreservation.
