We present c-axis polarized optical spectrum sigma(c)(omega) and out-o
f-plane Hall coefficient (R(H)c) in the normal state of La2-xSrxCuO4 a
s a function of doping. While sigma(c)(omega) is dominated by a Drude-
like peak at omega = 0 and R(H)c has finite negative values in the ove
rdoped region, the low-energy sigma(c)(omega) severely suppressed and
nearly omega independent, and R(H)c is very small for underdoped compo
unds. The results provide evidence for different charge dynamics norma
l to the planes and clearly demonstrate how the charge dynamics change
s with doping.
