P. So et al., OBSERVING CHAOS - DEDUCING AND TRACKING THE STATE OF A CHAOTIC SYSTEMFROM LIMITED OBSERVATION, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 49(4), 1994, pp. 2650-2660
A method is proposed whereby the full state vector of a chaotic system
can be reconstructed and tracked using only the time series of a sing
le observed scalar. It is assumed that an accurate mathematical descri
ption of the system is available. Noise effects on the procedure are i
nvestigated using as an example a kicked mechanical system which resul
ts in a four-dimensional dissipative map.
