The microscopic dynamics of liquid Ga is investigated by means of inel
astic neutron scattering. The analysis of the experimental intensities
is carried out with the help of available effective potentials derive
d from direct inversion of the static structure factors, and the absen
ce of well defined collective excitations explained in terms of the re
latively high values of the longitudinal viscosity. The relevance of t
he present findings regarding some electronic transport processes is f
inally discussed.
