Abstract
The effect of yeast extract/sugar ratio on the growth of Schizosacchar omyces pombe was investigated using a complex-synthetic medium. Analys is of batch cultures shows that this ratio determines the efficiency o f sugar-biomass conversion. The yeast extract/sugar ratio is correlate d to biomass yield by means of a Monod-type function at low and high g lucose concentrations. Influence of the substrate concentration appear s to be negligible in comparison to yeast extract/sugar ratio effect i n this kind of medium.
