Abstract
Lantana was used as the sole substrate for oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sajor caju) cultivation. Colonization was more copious, but bio-conver sion was lower, on sterilized lantana than on wheat straw, the mushroo m yields on substrate dry-weight basis being 36% and 54.8%, respective ly. The mushrooms produced on lantana were free of lantadene A, the pu tative hepatotoxin in lantana foliage, and were non-toxic to guinea pi gs.
