Malignant tumors of the skin (epitheliomas, melanomas) rank first in t
he structure of oncologic diseases over the period of 1985-1990, makin
g up 16.3-23.6 % of the total number of all newly detected malignant d
iseases in the population subjected to regular check-ups. Annual morbi
dity increment makes up 4.8 % for skin carcinoma and 2.4 % for melanom
a. Men aged over 70 more often develop skin carcinomas, women aged 40
to 49 more often suffer from melanoma. The mortality due to malignant
diseases of the skin over this period made up 1.8 % of the total numbe
r of those dead from malignant tumors; virtually in all the cases the
patients died because of concomitant diseases.
