Proton multiplicity fluctuations in nucleus-nucleus interactions at a
momentum of 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon are investigated using the method of
factorial moments. In collisions of light nuclei, the moment is a non
monotonic function of the azimuthal angle deltaphi. This dependence ca
nnot be obtained within the framework of the cascade-evaporation model
. Any dynamical effects disappear in interactions of C and Ta nuclei,
and fluctuations turn out to be of purely statistical nature.
