M. Furll et al., THE INFLUENCE OF SODIUM-CHLORIDE ON THE A CID-BASE-BALANCE AND ELECTROLYTE METABOLISM IN HEALTHY COWS, Tierarztliche Umschau, 49(3), 1994, pp. 158
The effects of an increasing daily intake of sodium chloride from 50 g
per day to 250 g per day over four days was investigated in five non
pregnant, dry cows with respect to their post-prandial state. Changes
in pulse and respiratory rates, body temperature, rumen motility and q
uantitative diuretic rates were observed clinically. The acid-base bal
ance altered to an acid state. A marginal hyperchloraemia was observed
. The quotient of sodium and chloride demonstrated this changes cleare
r. Especially sodium but also potassium exhibited a clear change in th
e dynamics of excretion. In spite of an changes of sodium in the ratio
n the anteprandial concentration of Na was very low in urine.
