F. Lavaud et al., HEMATURIC CYSTITIS DUE TO FOOD ALLERGY - BASED UPON 2 CASES, Revue francaise d'allergologie et d'immunologie clinique, 34(1), 1994, pp. 52-54
Allergic cystitis remains a controversial disorder and, at the very le
ast, is very rare. A food allergen may sometimes be involved. The auth
ors report two cases of hematuric cystitis which could be attributed t
o food allergy. Sensitisation to trophallergens was proven in both cas
es (cow's milk in one and egg white and shellfish in the second). The
diagnosis of food aller-gy cystitis was based upon variations in sympt
omatology after follow-up for more than a year with exclusion and rech
allenge diets. The therapeutic contribution of new antihistamines and
of sodium cromoglycate is discussed.
