N. Hortacsu et A. Oral, COMPARISON OF COUPLE-INITIATED AND FAMILY-INITIATED MARRIAGES IN TURKEY, The Journal of social psychology, 134(2), 1994, pp. 229-239
In this study, differences between individuals involved in couple- and
family-initiated marriages were investigated with respect to educatio
nal background, relationship duration, context and nature of interacti
ons with partner, degree of perceived disclosure, and ratings of diffe
rent reasons for marriage. Questionnaires were administered to a sampl
e of Turkish men and women who applied for a marriage license for thei
r first marriage. The results revealed differences between individuals
involved in the two kinds of marriages, in terms of background variab
les as well as context of interaction with partner and cognitions conc
erning the relationship.
