Ae. Stuchbery, THE ATTENUATION OF NUCLEAR ALIGNMENT ALONG CASCADES IN RECOIL-DISTANCE LIFETIME MEASUREMENTS, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 385(3), 1997, pp. 547-555
An accurate formalism is developed to treat the loss of nuclear alignm
ent due to vacuum deorientation in the case where the nucleus decays t
hrough a sequence of excited states. Comparisons are made between the
exact and simpler, approximate treatments. The implications for the an
alysis of recoil-distance lifetime measurements are discussed.
