Abstract
A first order one step ahead predictive excitation controller for turb o-alternator terminal voltage is presented. The adoption of a 'voltage profiling' approach in which terminal voltage error is reduced over a number of sample periods, reduces the controller bandwidth, and permi ts the use of a first order model for prediction purposes. The simple non-linear predictive controller is shown to be capable of providing g ood, consistent control over a wide range of operating conditions.
