The double differential cross sections for electron impact ionization
of helium are evaluated in the framework of a distorted wave approxima
tion that takes into account the effects of initial channel, final cha
nnel, and target distortion. The present results are in fair agreement
with the measured values and rigorous DWBA (distorted-wave Born appro
ximation) results of McCarthy and Zhang.
