Fm. Rabagliati et al., POLYMERIZATION OF METHYL-METHACRYLATE BY DIPHENYLZINC AND BY DIPHENYLZINC-WATER SYSTEMS, Boletin de la Sociedad Chilena de Quimica, 39(1), 1994, pp. 57-61
The present paper reports the polymerization of methyl methacrylate us
ing diphenylzinc-water, Ph2Zn-H2O, systems and also using just Ph2Zn;
our results indicate that these systems behave differently; while Ph2Z
n-H2O systems induce the polymerization with conversion to polymer dep
ending on the molar ratio water/diphenylzinc, H2O/Ph2Zn, used (in a pr
ocess similar to the one postulated for the polymerization of oxiranes
and styrene monomers), the Ph2Zn at 120-degrees-C behaves as an accel
erant of free radical polymerization of MMA monomer.
