Abstract
The literature data on gamma-radiolysis of uranium(IV) ions in deaerat ed perchloric and sulfuric acid solutions were analyzed. It was sugges ted that peculiarities of the radiolytic process are attributable to a n oxidation reaction of uranium(V) with H atoms. Upon uranium(IV) radi olysis, 17 reactions occurring in the solution were considered. The ra te constant of the reaction U(V) + H was estimated with the use of kno wn rate constants of elementary reactions as well as U(VI) and H-2 yie lds and steady-state U(V) concentrations.
