Aa. Lazar et al., A SCALABLE AND REUSABLE EMULATOR FOR EVALUATING THE PERFORMANCE OF SS7 NETWORKS, IEEE journal on selected areas in communications, 12(3), 1994, pp. 395-404
A scalable and reusable emulator was designed and implemented for stud
ying the behavior of SS7 networks. The emulator design was largely bas
ed on public domain software. It was developed on top of an environmen
t supported by PVM, the Parallel Virtual Machine, and managed by OSIMI
S-the OSI Management Information Service platform. The emulator runs o
n top of a commercially available ATM LAN interconnecting engineering
workstations. As a case study for evaluating the emulator, the behavio
r of the Singapore National SS7 Network under fault and unbalanced loa
ding conditions was investigated.
