We construct a realization of the quantum affine algebra U(q)(sl(N)) o
f an arbitrary level k in terms of free boson fields. In the q --> 1 l
imit this realization becomes the Wakimoto realization of sl(N). The s
creening currents and the vertex operators (primary fields) are also c
onstructed; the former commutes with U(q)(sl(N)) modulo total differen
ce, and the latter creates the U(q)(sl(N)) highest weight state from t
he vacuum state of the boson Fock space.
