Abstract
The conformational behaviour of ryl-3alpha-benzamidobicyclo[3.3.1]nona ne-2,9-dione (1) has been studied using NMR and molecular mechanics ca lculations. It is found to exist in boat-chair conformation (Fig. IIb) , with the ring carrying the substituents adopting the boat conformati on. The structural parameters, specially the flattening of the rings, are similar to those for other bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-2,9-diones.
