Abstract
A facile one-step synthesis of title compounds, some of them (6a-c) is omeric with girinimbine (1), has been developed. Condensation of 1-hyd roxycarbazole derivatives (3a-c, 5a-c) with 3-methyl-2-butenal affords the requisite 2,2-dimethyl-2H-pyrano[2,3-a]carbazole derivatives (4a- c, 6a-c).
