The reactions of plumbagin, (5-hydroxy-2-methyl-naphthalene-1,4-dione)
, an active principle of Plumbago species, with bromine, hydrogen cyan
ide and nitrous acid have been studied and the bromo, cyano and nitro
compounds isolated from the reaction products have been characterized
and their structures determined from their spectral data (UV-VIS, IR,
(HNMR)-H1, (CNMR)-C-13 and MS).
