Abstract
The Si(111) surface shows spontaneous (7 x 7) reconstruction at low te mperatures. At about 1130 K deconstruction to a (1 x 1) structure take s place. We have studied the reconstructed surface and the quenched, u nreconstructed surface by low energy electron diffraction (LEED) as a function of temperature. A kinematical LEED data analysis has been per formed in order to be able to discriminate between different structure models.
