Abstract
Infrared spectroscopic analysis of solutions containing 4-hydroxyaceto phenone (HAP) and the model surfactant 2-(2-hexyloxyethoxy)ethanol (HO EE) reveal a medium dependent hydrogen bonding competition between hom omolecular association ([HAP]n + [HOEE]n) and heteromolecular associat ion ([HAP-HOEE]n) with the former being favoured by low polarity solve nts.
