Abstract
The surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of free bilirubin and bilirubin complexes with transition metals [iron(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II)] are investigated on colloidal silver. Free bilirubin i s found to be adsorbed on colloidal silver at the lactam and dicarboxy late oxygens. The addition of some transition metal ions results in ra pid, square planar complex formation and the complex ratio of bilirubi n with the metal ion is 1:1.
