A series of observations of the transient X-ray pulsar GRS 0834-43 was
carried out with instruments Of the ''Roentgen'' orbital observatory
on board the ''Kvant'' module during the period of the expected outbur
st from November 1-24, 1992. No luminosity increase of the object was
registered in our observations. The flux of the source remained on the
level 20-30 mCrab corresponding to the flux between outbursts. The ob
tained spectrum of the source in the 2-100 keV range is typical of X-r
ay pulsars in binary systems. It is remarkable that there are no notab
le differences in the pulsar's spectrum between its low state (this pa
per) and its high state (''Granat'' satellite data [4]), though the lu
minosity of the source was different by a factor greater than 5.
