Vv. Prokofeva et Mi. Demchik, FOURIER-ANALYSIS OF SIMULTANEOUS BVR OBSERVATIONS OF THE ASTEROID-87 SYLVIA AND ITS DUPLICITY, Astronomy letters, 20(2), 1994, pp. 245-252
The asteroid 87 Sylvia was observed in a BVR system in 1989 with the d
igital TV equipment of the 0.5-m telescope of the Crimean Astrophysica
l Observatory. The variability of the amplitude and shape of the light
curve over a period of 2 to 5 days was detected. The light variability
with sidereal period of P0 = 0.2159853d was confirmed, but the variab
ility within this period was absent in the color indices B-V and V-R,
measured simultaneously. New periods P1 = 0.2207d and P2 = 0.065d were
found. It is suggested, that P0 is the orbital period, whereas P1 and
P2 are the axial rotation periods of the components of this binary as
teroid. The size of the orbit, diameters, and masses of the components
are estimated.
