Abstract
The influence of 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP beta CD) on the permeability of hydrocortisone through semi-permeable cellophane memb rane and hairless mouse skin was investigated. When the hydrocortisone concentration was kept constant and the HP beta CD concentration in a n aqueous vehicle was gradually increased the flux through the semi-pe rmeable membrane was increased until all hydrocortisone had dissolved, after that the flux decreased with increasing HP beta CD concentratio n. A maximum flux was obtained when just enough HP beta CD was used to dissolve all the drug in the aqueous vehicle.
