Abstract
An experiment was carried out in a stock consisting of 59 weaned pigs during a sudden outbreak of postweaning edema disease. According to th e clinical symptoms the animals were divided into two groups: Group 1 showed advanced clinical symptomes of central nervous system involveme nt. Group 2 showed only palpebral edema and excitement. Within each gr oup two therapeutic and one control subgroup were formed. The correspo nding subgroups of each group were treated as follows: Group 1 Subgrou p A, and Group 2 Subgroup A received twice a day Gentamycin, Prednisol on and Melperone for two days(IM). Group 1 Subgroup B, and Group 2 Sub group B received twice daily Amphetaminum phosphoricum for two days(IM ). Group 1 Subgroup C, and Group 2 Subgroup C were untreated controls. In Group 1 with advanced clinical symptoms of central nervous system involvement, Subgroup B showed which was treated with a stimulant of t he central nervous system the best result. In Group 2 without central nervous system involvement both therapy groups showed almost identical , better results compared to the control. The presented results show t hat in such cases of edema disease which are presented with different degrees of central nervous system involvement, further classification is necessary.
