Diorganotellurium(IV) bis(fluorocarboxylates)[R2Te(OCOR')2] [R = Me, P
h,p-MeOC6H4 and p-EtOC6H4; R' = CF3, C2F5, C3F7] have been prepared by
the interaction of R2Te(OMe)2 with fluorocarboxylic acids (R'COOH). I
dentical products were obtained by the metathetical reaction of R2TeCl
2 with silver salts of the fluorocarboxylic acids in 1:2 molar ratios.
However, when the reaction proceeded in a 1:1 molar ratio, the produc
t was R2TeCl(OCOR'). However, reaction of R2TeO with CF3COOH yielded {
[(R2TeOCOCF3)20]2.H2O} and [(R2TeOCOCF3)2O] Species. The products are
non-conducting and monomeric in solution. The mode of bonding of the f
luorocarboxylate group and a possible geometry around the central tell
urium atom are suggested on the basis of physicochemical and spectral
(IR, mass, H-1, C-13, F-19 and Te-125 NMR) studies.
