Within the history of Chinese psychology, this new academic discipline
has always been under strong political pressure, and was attacked twi
ce, once in 1958 and again during the 'Cultural Revolution'. However,
in their scientific work, Chinese psychologists have been very interes
ted in all the different approaches of contemporary western schools of
psychology. The diverging Chinese viewpoints on theories of psycholog
y should be considered the result of these difficult conditions for ac
ademic work.
