A model of a sea bottom is developed using the results of sound field
measurements of a water layer in a shallow sea and of a number of sedi
ment parameters in a thin upper layer of the sea floor. This model pro
vides the possibility of calculating frequency-dependent decay laws of
the mean level of a sound field with distance J(r), which are adequat
e for experimental horizontal sections of a sound field J(r) over a wi
de frequency range. A comparison between the calculated and experiment
al horizontal sections of the sound field is presented.
