Ga. Lyakhov et Ov. Umnova, EFFICIENCY OF ULTRASOUND SELF-ACTION IN THE SUBTRANSITION PHASE OF A LIQUID-CRYSTAL, Acoustical physics, 40(2), 1994, pp. 286-287
The feasibility of observing the thermal self-action of ultrasound in
the isotropic phase of a liquid crystal near the ''nematic liquid'' ph
ase transition is evaluated. The process of thermal self-bleaching is
shown to dominate in MBBA crystals at moderate levels of ultrasound in
put intensity, which increases the ultrasound penetration depth by mor
e than an order of a magnitude.
