New results are reported on the observation of inverse beta decay of t
he proton. The data were obtained in an underground laboratory near th
e nuclear reactors of a Krasnoyarsk group of enterprises. The new resu
lts add substantially to the results available previously, because of
the particular experimental conditions, which involved a stepped shutd
own of two of the three reactors. The cross section for inverse beta d
ecay of the proton has been determined: sigma(expt)(vp) = (6.26 +/- 0.
26) x 10(-43) cm2/div. Limitations are found on characteristics of the
neutrino oscillations: DELTAm1,2(2) less-than-or-equal-to 7.5 X 10(-3
) eV2 for sin(2)2theta = 1 and sin(2)2theta less-than-or-equal-to 0.15
for DELTAm1,2(2) greater-than-or-equal-to 5.0 X 10(-2) eV2.
