Abstract
We study a class of endomorphisms of subfactor index 2, called binary shifts, on the hyperfinite II1 factor. Invariants are identified for c ocycle conjugacy and strong cocycle conjugacy classes. In particular, there is a connection between the Bratteli diagram associated with a b inary shift and strong cocycle conjugacy. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc .
