Cl. Despins et al., IMPACT OF A NONFADING GAUSSIAN CHARACTERIZATION OF INTERFERENCE ON PORTABLE RADIO LINK ANALYSIS, IEEE transactions on communications, 42(2-4), 1994, pp. 396-402
In order to make the analytical evaluation of portable radio link perf
ormance tractable while avoiding lengthy simulations, intersymbol inte
rference and cochannel interference are often modelled as non-fading,
gaussian noise. This paper investigates the viability of such an appro
ach for wide-band channels where equalization and space diversity are
used to combat interference and signal fading. Comparisons or results
obtained using such an assumption of interference with those of a simu
lation-based approach indicate that as long as the number of cochannel
interferers is smaller than the space diversity order, the variance o
f the gaussian interfering symbols can be adjusted to provide a reason
able estimate of performance over error rates of interest.
