The Human Genome Project has been in existence for several years. it h
as created a wealth of resources in the form of genetic and physical m
aps, innovative technologies, instrumentation, and information. It is
driving the future of gene discovery, as well as disease diagnosis, am
elioration, and treatment. Despite the successes in the project, the m
utation research community has, in general, been slow to capitalize on
the infrastructure and resources that have been created. This should
not continue as there are now available some key technologies and reso
urces that are ripe for exploitation.(C) 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
