Abstract
Hyperglycemia can be observed in various neurological and internal dis eases without diabetes mellitus being present. In a retrospective surv ey of 100 consecutive patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhag e (SAH) a significant prognostic correlation between elevated blood gl ucose levels and unfavourable outcome could be demonstrated. A rise of plasma catecholamines, plasma cortisol and growth hormone are discuss ed as possible reasons for elevated blood glucose levels.
