Blood serum and skin Schiff base, blood serum alpha-tocoferol, glutath
ion reductase, and phospholipases were examined in guinea pigs after 3
-day applications of oil and mazut on the skin. Blood serum glutathion
reductase was found inactivated and alpha-tocoferol level reduced, wh
ereas Schiff base content and phospholipase activity increased. The, r
esults point to enhanced lipid peroxidation, this being a favorable ba
ckground for disease development and relapses in prolonged exposure to
oil and mazut.
