Kj. Malcolmcallis et al., EFFECTS OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTAL PROTEIN-SOURCE AND A PASTEURELLA-HAEMOLYTICA TOXOID ON PERFORMANCE AND HEALTH OF NEWLY RECEIVED CALVES, Agri-Practice, 15(4), 1994, pp. 22-28
Feeding high ruminal escape protein sources and administration of past
eurella haemolytica toxoid were investigated in receiving calves. Resu
lts indicated that with the addition of blood meal, dally gain and fee
d-to-grain ratio tended to be improved. Administration of P. haemolyti
ca toxoid had no effect on daily gain in native calves with low morbid
ity from respiratory disease. In highly stressed calves that were tran
sported for 18 hours, however, vaccination with the toxoid increased g
ain and reduced the percentage of calves treated for bovine respirator
y disease.
