The growth of 19 strains of Rhizopus from different species were evalu
ed in environments with variable concentrations of CO2. The results sh
owed that most strains studied can tolerate concentrations of 5-10% CO
2. Even the radial growth of some strains is stimulated in such CO2 co
ncentrations. However, in concentrations of 16-20% CO2, most strains h
ave their growth significantly reduced. Some strains demonstrated to b
e able develop in anaerobiosis, though slowly.
