Quantitative evaluation of Parahydrogen Induced Polarization (PHIP) ex
periments provides for the determination of kinetic data of homogeneou
sly catalyzed hydrogenations. Especially developed NMR probes facilita
te investigations at reproducible reaction conditions and constant hyd
rogenation rates. Rate equations, describing the experimentally achiev
ed steady state kinetics, are used to determine the pressure dependent
ratio between free and complexed catalyst in the reactive solution du
ring the hydrogenation. A method is presented to determine the rate co
nstants of the catalytic cycle of such hydrogenations, which follow th
e hydride route.
