Abstract
The role of proteolytic enzymes in protein processing, receptor-mediat ed processes and intercellular interactions is reviewed. Limited prote olysis is suggested to be a mechanism through which the information st ored in polypeptide chains and necessary for realization of particular biological functions could be most fully expressed.
