Jh. Shepherd et Raf. Crawford, RECONSTRUCTIVE PROCEDURES IN BENIGN AND MALIGNANT GYNECOLOGICAL SURGERY, Current opinion in obstetrics & gynecology, 6(3), 1994, pp. 206-209
The management of female cancers may involve radical surgery and radio
therapy, which results in damage to or loss of the pelvic organs and f
emale genitalia. New procedures have been developed and applied in gyn
ecological oncology, allowing reconstruction of continent bladders, of
new vaginas (both for cosmesis and function), and preserving fecal co
ntinence. The use of a range of plastic procedures have enabled the re
storation of the external appearances, which leads to improved recover
y and a better quality of life.
