Abstract
This article deals with bus fleet assignment on a route to meet a requ ired timetable pattern on the route. The conditions under which a savi ng of a few buses in the fleet is possible by inserting express and pa rtial services in the schedule with alternative fleet assignment strat egies are discussed. An application of the case of an urban route in M adras, India is also discussed.
