Abstract
Thirty ASA physical status I and II patients scheduled for elective ma xillofacial surgery received total intravenous anaesthesia with propof ol, fentanyl and atracurium and were randomly allocated to undergo eit her fibreoptic or orthodox nasotracheal intubation. Haemodynamic respo nses to intubation were similar for both techniques. The peak values f or heart rate and blood pressure after induction were not significantl y different from the baseline values for each group. There was no sign ificant difference in the time required to complete intubation. Spo2 a nd end-tidal CO2 were similar for both techniques.
