Abstract
We introduce a new theoretical approach to describe the virtual excita tion of Fermi edge singularities in modulation-doped quantum wells. We discuss how ultrashort laser pulses renormalize the effective masses, band-gap, transition matrix elements, and interactions of doped semic onductors.
