F. Silvestre et al., OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR THE REACTIVITY OF CHROMIUM (III) SALTS ON COLLAGEN IN THE SOLVENT TANNING PROCESS, Journal of chemical technology and biotechnology, 60(1), 1994, pp. 1-6
The reactivity of trivalent chromium salts towards collagen, the main
protein in animal skins, was investigated in organic solvents on lamb
skins of controlled water content. The optimal conditions were determi
ned by experiment modelling. Complete exhaustion of the tanning baths,
and much higher chromium binding was observed with this system than w
ith traditional processes carried out in aqueous media.
