The aim of this work is to check the hypothesis regarding the formatio
n of complexes such as an interstitial impurity helium-vacancy cluster
. Nb wires uniformly implanted by 24 MeV alpha-particles at 320 K are
investigated by means of the internal friction technique. It is shown
that oxygen atoms occupying interstitial sites in Nb BCC-structure are
trapped during irradiation and after annealing up to T approximately
470 K. Analysing the detrapping oxygen recovery curves with i n situ m
easurements of internal friction and helium thermo-desorption, spectra
it has been concluded that oxygen atoms can interact with He(m)V(n)-c
lusters and be the nucleation sites. This experimental result is discu
ssed in the light of computer simulation of high-energy ion implantati
on in Nb using the TRIM program.
