Abstract
Using quantitative difference IR spectroscopy we have found that the t ributyl phosphate extracts of zirconium from 12-15 M HNO3 contain ioni c associates [(TBP)2H+]Zr(NO3)5- (I) and [TBP.H3O+(H2O)n]Zr(NO3)5- (II ), where n = 1, 2, as well as the Zr(NO3)4(TBP)2 complex at a lower co ncentration than (I) and (II). The equilibrium I reversible II is shif ted toward II at higher C(HNO3)o and lower C(Zr)o. The structure of as sociates I and II is discussed
